Gregg Deal (Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe) is a nationally and internationally recognized multi-disciplinary artist, activist, disruptor, and frontman of the punk band Dead Pioneers. Grounded in his Native identity, Deal’s work confronts the ongoing realities of American colonialism through exhaustive critiques of society, politics, popular culture, and history. Working across painting, murals, performance, film, spoken word, and more, he challenges audiences to reckon with these issues in both the present and historical tense.
Deal has lectured widely—including two TEDx talks—where he addresses stereotypes, advocates for accurate representation, and exposes the sanitized histories of the United States in relation to its First Peoples. He often refers to these interventions as “disruptions,” a central theme in his practice. His work has been exhibited locally, nationally, and internationally at institutions such as the Denver Art Museum, RedLine Gallery, and the Smithsonian Institution. Deal currently lives along Colorado’s Front Range with his wife and their five children.
